PRE-SCHOOL DAY
SUMMARY
STYLE AND SWING
As
you can gather from this account, St. Matthew’s is a busy place. It is
also a happy place where each child finds daily success. With that comes
an increased sense of adequacy, a stronger sense of “who I am” and "what
I can do.”
While the consistency of the day’s routine
gives the sense of comfortable predictability important to young
children, flexibility within that routine is essential for optimal
learning support. A child-sensitive curriculum is just that. The child’s
emerging interests and needs are accommodated in the teacher's plans for
the school day. Teaching begins where the child is, supports existing
abilities, encourages and enables increasing independence. Included in
our goals is the formation of habits and attitudes that will support
future learning and living well. The style and swing of the day is in
sync with the young child. Support, nurture, and love are as much a part
of teaching as are new ideas and challenges. |
